Rome
My friend is coming to UK to look for me next year and we are going for Europe backpacking tour. We were planning where to go in Europe...
Rome: A place that we couldn't miss - Colosseum.
Last year or two, someone told me about the movie 'Gladiators' and the place Colosseum. I was indifferent about it.
How could I appreciate a place where people got killed by violence created by man itself? I don't understand why people find it amusing or entertaining to watch violence? As I go deeper into the history of Gladiators and the Colosseum, I really find it hard to accept the thinking of ancient humans.
Criminals were put into the centre stage of Colosseum, waiting for the hungry lions to be released to the stage and tear their flesh. Is this entertaining? Not to me, it is pain rather. Thank god the lions were frightened by the crowd cheers and moved away without attacking. What happened? The beast master was beheaded for not giving what the audiences want to see.
Gladiators who lost in the competition were not spared either.
Yet, I still planned to visit the Colosseum, not to feel the bloodsheds but the sweat that the slaves shed for this great architecture just like the Pyramids.
